Outlook keeps shutting down right after it boots

I can not figure this one out. I just loaded office 2007 and wanted to start
using outlook. First it tells me i need to download
WindowsSearch-KB940157-XP-x86-enu.exe. I did so, although I really don't
want it. Before installing the KB and after, outlook boots, and within a
minute it shuts down. Ran a diagnostic. It told me to keep booting and
shutting it down for a week. I did that too, why I don't know. sounds like
a pretty stupid fix to me. Bottom line, outlook still boots, and shuts down
within a minute.

Any suggestions?

No MS Diagnostic tool tells you to 'keep booting / shutting down for a week'
What type of mail account?
 
The truth is, yes it did tell me to keep trying for a week to obtain all the
updates, but there were no updates to obtain. I got all the updates
immediately after installing. It telling me to keep trying for a week seem
so hilarious that I even have a witness to this. And I am being truthful; the
message was something to that effect.

It is a Gmail account.

The problem is solved. During the install, there was an option to allow the
install to automatically set up the email accounts. This is the first time
I've used Office 2007, and I do not recall 2003 or previous Office editions
setting up the email accounts. I could be wrong on this. It set up mail
account as a POP3. If I'm not mistaken, Gmail used to be a POP3. I am going
from memory, and it has been a long time since I've set up a Gmail account in
Outlook. I went to the Gmail help and followed the instructions. I should
have done this first before posting here. Sorry.

I also want to take a minute and say thanks. The Office and XP forum, or
discussion groups have been a tremendous help to me over the years. All of
the MVP's and other who contribute here, I sincerely say thank you.

Since you say you chose a POP account, keep in mind that if you intend to
access this mail via web browser as well as Outlook, you should configure
Outlook to leave copies of messages on the server or it will delete them when
it downloades them.
