Outlook just re-sent every email in archive. Why?

I use Outlook 2003 only for generating USPS delivery confirmation emails.
The text of the email is created using my third party postage service, then
the email is sent through Outlook.

This morning, I was helping customer to email a vendor of mine, and I
clicked on my vendor's email link on their website, which opened up Outlook
on my computer. I didn't notice anything at the time, but a few minutes
later I began receiving calls from customers saying they just got a USPS
delivery confirmation email from me, but it was from an order they had placed
over a year ago. I got several more calls and email replies. I looked in my
Outlook Sent folder, and sure enough, every email I had ever sent was sent
again.

Is this something that has happened to anyone in the past? Is there an easy
way to remove the archived data that saves each person's email address? I
don't need to save anyone's data and I don't want this to happen again.
 
There is no way outlook did it on its own. Do you keep outlook open? if the
application is trying to send from outlook while its closed its likely these
were not resends but the original message that you thought you sent (but
never did).

The only way to get rid of customer data is to delete the contents from the
sent folder. You can do this with autoarchive if you open outlook
regularly.
