outlook journal?

Hello,
I have a simplequestion.
I always use the calender, contacts and email options of outlook 2003,
but I never used it "journal"
If there is a calendar, what is the use of a journal?
What is it for?
Why is it called journal?
For what purposes do you use it for example?

I would appreciate if you can give precise examples.

In simple terms the Journal is the place where you can record all activity
for a Contact - meetings, emails, notes, telephone calls etc etc.
 
Still not clear.

What do you mean "for a contact"?

I see a time line as the journal, and dont see wat it would mean to
record email, telphones on a time line???

Please be specific with examples
