Outlook is not remembering my email password (with provider) why?

I've clicked the box in the e-mail account set up for it to remember the
password (several times) but it is not remembering it.

This is a new computer (VISTA OS)

Outlook is from Office XP Pro - 2002 with all 3 Service Packs added.

Thats because OL versions, pre 2003 are not fully compatible with Vista, and
this is a known bug (Which wont be addresses as OL2002 is out of support)
Try this, from an earlier post

You can use http://www.mgsware.de/index.php/OLAutoPW/138/0/ and you will not
have any problems with account passwords
