Outlook Inbox Problem

My Outlook Inbox is showing a numeral (e.g. (8)) which is not consistent with
the actual activity in the Outlook system. After opening and/or deleting
emails, this number is not correctly showing what activity has occurred.

If it is in your personal folders it may be set to show the total number of
mail items instead of the unread messages.(right-click and goto properties
for that) Otherwise, if it is showing up in a specific email account, it
could be messages in your spam folder. In both cases I would expand all of
the 'Mail Folders" in your navigation pane and check it out.
