always my outlook worked ok, but since last monday 19, it hangs. All the computer works fine, but, just when I open outlook and try to read or write, or even to change of folder, it hangs. The computer hangs too. Only the mouse works. If I try to change of program, it needs minutes to do it. Finally I must to close the outlook with right botom's mouse.
Outlook says to me "it cannot access to the file e:\program files\administrator\outlook\etc... OUTLOOK.PST". That is right, this file doesn't exist on my computer!

So, what can i do? any help will welcome

Thanks in advance.

Start by detaching the non-existing pst-file from your profile. Since you
didn't state which version of Outlook you are using I can only point you to
Control Panel-> Mail.

Dear Road
thank you very much for your reply. I give you more info: it's outlook 2000 (9.0.0.2814).
I am using for now the outlook 6, but I'd wish to keep using the 2000

When I starts it everything looks fine, but just when I try to change of folder it hangs. During some minutes it keeps hanged, and then it says about the file pst, and the computer goes well again

May be I should deinstall outlook 2000? if so, where exactly i must click

Thanks in advance, cheer

Re-installing won't help as you have a setting screwed up and these are
maintained even after a reinstall.

For removing the non-existend pst-file from your account settings;
If you go to Control Panel-> Mail you'll see a list of Personal Folders as
well. Select one and choose Properties to see where it points to. If you get
an error or you see that it points to the non-existend location you can
press Remove to remove it from the list.

To further address your problem locate the other pst-files and run
scanpst.exe against it. Make sure you choose to create a back-up as well
before repairing the file.

Dear Road
thanks again for your help
Following your directions, I checked control panel - email, but here I didn't find any place pointing to directories. I use windows 2000 profesional. Only window showed is the list of my email accounts

Though, I have checked inside of outlook, and found the place (self archiving) where is this directory. I have de-actived the selfarchiving option, and deleted the directory's field. I am studying now the behaviour of the tool

This is right, this directory doesn't exist in my computer, btw, i don'tt know why

Anyways, I thank sincerely your help in this trouble
Cheers

Dear Road
thanks for replying. I have been out of Madrid last days, so I couldn't reply

Actually it's not solved yet. I am using outlook 6 and it works always so: fine for the first 10 minutes, then, it hangs a couple of minutes, and after it works fine again. Time to time it hangs for 20 seconds or so, and then again well

When I start the outllokk 2000 and try to change of folder, always it hangs, and again it says cannot access to the directory and file that were erased

I tried this: I searched in my regedit the word outlook.pst, and found 2 sites pointing to the "ghost directory". I changed them, now towards another directoy wich is right. So, outlook 2000 hangs often. I don't know what to do, may be I will let so because it's boring

Another problem is when I try to update with windows update. It hangs the computer and even deactivated the Mcafee VSHIELD, and finally windows update says "the updating process didn't finish fine"

Anyways, thank you very much for your help
Cheers
