Outlook freezes while typing names into TO field.

I have Outlook 2002 running on Windows 2000. All products up to date. Recently, Outlook is freezing requiring a restart after the third letter is typed into the "To" field while composing a message. I've had to turn off "Suggest names while completing To, Cc, and Bcc fields". What's going on? Can't find anything written about this problem
