Outlook Folder List Sort Order

Hi,

We are using Outlook 2000 and Exchange 2003. We recently migrated
from Exchange 5.5. Since the migration, the Outlook folder list is
sorting differently. Before migration a typical folder list would be:

Outlook Today - mailbox_name
Personal Folders
Public Folders

Now it is:

Personal Folders
Public Folders
Outlook Today - mailbox_name

It only does this where mailbox_name starts with R or higher.
Obviously it is sorting everything alphabetically, becuase when I
rename Personal Folders to "zPersonal Folders" it moves to the bottom.
My question is why did it never used to behave like this? Is this
something Exchange 2003 is forcing to happen? One other thing to add
is that is does not happen in Outlook 2003, the mailbox is always at
the top of the list in Outlook 2003, but 99% of our clients are using
Outlook 2000.

I seem to recall that when I used OL2000, I corrected this problem by
remobing all services from my profile and addeing them back in starting with
the Exchange service (Outlook Today), then the Outlook Address Book
services, then the Personal Folders service.

Note that I've seen this before also in OL2002. I tried deleting/recreating
the profile, everything I could think of - it was only for a few users, and
was also post migration from a failing E2000 server to a new one. The users
didn't seem to care all that much and I never did get it resolved. I suspect
recreating the mailbox would do it, but that seems a bit extreme for what
is, at worst, a cosmetic annoyance.

To resolve, I open up the mailbox in Exchange 5.0. This
allows you to rename to "Mailbox - User's name". You
will then have to recreate the MAPI profile.

A coworker and I were trying to figure out why it
occasionally happens now that we have a "temporary"
solution to the problem. We did determine that for the
user having the problem, when you create a MAPI profile,
it depended on whether you typed in the alias or the
display name and resolved with Exch server. Depending on
which one you used to typed in, it displayed differently
in the folder list.

Of course now we need to wait for another one of our
user's to call in and complain to confirm this.

This problem is seen in our ofice laos for some ten users.
We are using mixed exchange 5.5 and 2000 servers with Office XP client.

I could not understand the possible fix given in the earlier posts. Can some
one explain me clearly. Thanks.
