I know this forum is for IE6, but the forum for Outlook
isn't working........I'm hoping someone can help me

I first noticed a problem when I tryed to open Outlook
Express, it sort of freezed up. When I ctrl alt del'ed to
try to close it, it wasn't respnding. After a few times of
this, I just left it alone and eventually it would open to
the full e-mail window, but again would delay for a while.
And clicking on "Create mail" or "reply would cause a
delay as well. its just extremely slow

So thats when I thought ok, maybe I need to run scandisk.
But first I always scan for viruses. And to my surprise I
had a virus. W32.pinfi it was called, it infected 610
files on me, but I was able to repair them all and the
virus is gone. I then ran scandisk (it took about 3 1/2 -4
hours) and then i defragged (that took about 8 hours!!!!)
Its never taken me that long to defrag before, usually 3
or 4 hours at the most. I ran Norton AntiVirus again,
just to be sure the Virus was gone. Anyway, I don't know
if it was the virus causing this Outlook Express problem
or not, becuase its still like that. Very slow to open and
delayed. I also uninstalled Outlook and re-installed it
and that didn't work. Maybe I needed to delete something
in the registry? But I wouldn't know what......

Also for some odd reason now, Norton is also causing
Windows to load slower. Just before the systen tray icons
load it just does nothing for about a minute. i'm using
the same settings I've used for years, I don't have it
scan at start up. I uninstalled Norton and it loaded
normally, so i know its Norton causing this. Its just
taking forever to load now.......

Does anyone know how to fix these 2 problems? Thanks in
Advance

For your OE problems, see the possibilities on this page:

http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/problems/performance.htm

NAV is a well-known resource hog in many Windows versions, causing slow
loading and slower performance. A recent NAV program update has been
causing trouble for some users, too.

The server used when viewing newsgroups via the web-interface has been
out-of-whack for a while now. Early on the problem also affected the NNTP
servers, too. The OE6 newsgroup seems fine currently when accessed via a
newsreader like OE. Copy/paste the following into your browser and click
GO. The OE6 newsgroup will open in your default newsreader:

Thanks alot for the response.

I did update NAV yesterday using the Live Update feature.
First time I've ever updated, that very well could be
whats slowing me down at start up. I KNOW its NAV, some
component of it..... so thats got to be it.
Any idea how to delete the update??

Sorry, Jim, but you'd have to check in at Symantec Help & Support or one of
their forums for further information. Updated virus definitions seldom
cause further slowdowns but some of the options in NAV (and updates for
them) certainly can.[/QUOTE]

Thanks alot for your help, that info in the OE link helped
and fixed the problem :)

Any idea how to delete the NAV update? I think thats what
it is, becuase I never used the Live Update Feature before
untill yesterday, and thats when it started getting slow.
Thats gotta be the problem
