I'm not new to windows operating systems yet I am sort of
a new user with the new XP PRO.

Outlook express (which I prefer over Outlook) opens,
displays my folders, but the main windows (the list of
received items and the preview pane) remain blank and the
program stops responding. (In the past with 98 I would
get an error mssg that O.E. could not open which was
correctable by deleting the inbox folder, and restarting
O.E.)

I do not want to lose the items in my inbox (which was
the result in 98), so please tell me what I can do to
resolve this problem.

You'd be better off posting in an OE group - try
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
