I just had Windows XP installed on my 5-year-old compaq
presario yesterday. Outlook Express worked just fine for
about 24 hours after installation but this evening I
began getting the error message: The connection to the
server has failed. Account: 'shaltmaier',
Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E

What should I do to restore the conenction to the
server? Comcast was unable to assist me and so was
Compaq. Thanks

What e-mail client are you using, Outlook, Outlook Express or some other
client? Usually, under the properties of the mail account, you can specify
the port to be used. If you've installed any security software, firewall,
even antivirus lately, any such item might be blocking the necessary port.

You could also try deleting the mail account in your e-mail client and then
setting it up again but note, you will need to check with your ISP for the
proper settings, POP3 Server, SMTP Server, etc. It can usually be found at
the ISP's website.
