Outlook Express

I am running Windows XP/SP3, Internet Explorer 7.0, with Outlook Express 7.0.
When I open Outlook Express, I initially get a partial window with the
Inbox/Outbox/etc.. Then the screen goes completely blank for ten or fifteen
seconds, with only the title bar on the top showing Outlook Express Inbox.
Eventually it fully opens and runs properly, but it takes a long time. Since
Outlook Express seems to be a part of the download with Internet Explorer and
not separately listed in the Add/Remove Programs, how do I reinstall Outlook
Express? Or, is there another way to repair the program?

I do all the things you suggested as a regular practice, but still have the
very slow program opening. Again, is there a way to repair or
uninstall/reinstall Outlook Express to correct what appears to be a glitch in
the program?

Hi Don, my knowledge of Outlook Express is limited. I had the same problem
on my moms computer with XP OS. Now if you mean when you first turn on the
computer and launch OE there is as far as I know nothing to speed it up
because MS is loading programs and applications. Solution is turn on
computer, wait five minutes for everything to load and launch OE. If you
are launching OE after startup then do a disc cleanup. Then call your
internet service provider and get free technical support from them regarding
email. They should hopefully be able to help. Let me know if this works for
you. I would also reccomend a full virus scan and malware/spyware scan to
rule out an infection.

Is a Hotmail account the default or only Mail Account running in OE?

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity...

File | Identities | Add new identity

Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2)
import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete
the old one (File | Identities | Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

So no news account?

And no, I have not tried a new identity.


Have you tried comparing the difference that opening OE
with Work Offline set has? E.g. use IE to set it by pressing Alt-F,W
and then try to open OE. Depending on your settings that could
eliminate some of the network overhead which may represent all
of your delay.

Just curious. How old are you young lady ? You are really posting through all over

Outlook Express Hanging

I have had the same fault several times recently. most i have found the causes, but i still am battling with one.

What did you uninstall recently? more specifically, which antivirus / antispam / antimalware programs?

most of these programs install addons into outlook express and there might be some left behind after the uninstall. bitdefender 8 used to have this program a few years back, but not any more.

most times, compact folders fixes this problem. my most extreme case was no messages in the inbox, but the dbx file was 800mb.

hope this sparks a brain cell in someones head, cause I'm still sleeping
