I went to outlook express to find everything in all the local folders was
gone except a few of the deleted items. Can someone tell me what might of
happened to everything?

numerous possibilities.
your folder were to big and the system trimmed them down. not good to use the standard folders for storage.

you tried a compact and interrupted it.

are a couple of possibilities.

Have you tried asking the experts in the Outlook Express newsgroups?

If OE was compacting messages and you interrupted it that could cause this.
Is you WinXP completely up to date?

If your WinXP is completely up to date then OE made backups before
compacting. Is there a BAK file in the Recycled bin for each of your OE
folders?

By "letters" do you mean "electronic" letters that are more commonly
referred to as "email"? XP ships with Outlook Express. It is one of the
many email programs (also referred to as "mail clients") that you can
choose from.

Check with your ISP for directions on configuring the email application of
your choice. Most ISPs will have help pages at their website that give step
by step directions for the most commonly used mail applications.

If you choose something other than Outlook Express and it isn't listed on
the ISPs site, open the help file of the desired email client. Then look up
"adding an email account" or "adding account." You'll still need to type in
the mail server information obtained from your ISP but with the aid of the
help file, you should be able to figure out where it goes.
