I can not receive email useing my outlook express. If I have my outlook
express open then email will come in. NO ONE "my ISP provider, Geek squad
from best buy, a Geek friend" can find anything wrong. Does anyone know
anything about Mozilla Thunderbird ? My ISP provider said to try it. I want
to know what other people think about useing an email sever other than
outlook express. thanks
-- ps: I can not get anyone to understand that I can not get my email when
it is not open. HELP PLEASE thanks meaginn

I don't understand. You want to receive mail while the program isn't open?
It just doesn't work that way. Outlook Express has to be open before it
can retrieve your mail. All mail clients work that way.

Yeah, unless you're using HTLM-based E-Mail, you have to have an E-Mail
client, such as Outlook, open in order to receive your messages.

Of course. That's normal. You can't get E-mail when your E-mail client isn't
open.

That's because there isn't anything wrong.

Outlook Express is an E-mail client, not an E-mail server, but it doesn't
matter what E-mail client you use. The results will be the same.

I can understand it, but you need to understand that it doesn't work the way
you want it to. You can't get pictures on your television set unless you
turn it on either.

I'm so sorry guys I guess I did not make myself clear. When email is sent to
me and I cleck on outlook expres go to my inbox I may have 1 to 5 messages.
That does not happen anymore, the only time an email will come in is when I
am in my inbox. When I cleck on send & receive it looks like an email is
comeing in and I can read receiveing mail from sever, but nothing ever shows
up. If you all tell me again nothing is wrong then I will forget the whole
thing and thanks for your info. meaginn

Are you using dialup for a connection? It sounds like you may have one or
more large emails waiting for you and depending upon your connection speed
and the size of the emails it could take a long time to recieve and show
them. If someone sent you an email with a video clip it could possibly take
half an hour or more. Your ISP should provide a method of checking your
email via your web browser. You should try that to see if this may be the
problem.
