Is there any test made by MSAS on the network traffic used by OE downloading
from an IMAP server?

I wonder if this ispart of MSAS as when I try to download "very suspicious"
mails (in order to know who is sending me a virus), OE does't perform the
task but Netscape can do it.

There have been reports here that particular users are not able to download
from IMAP using Outlook Express with Microsoft Antispyware installed.

I've intentionally added an IMAP server to my OE installation just to keep
an eye on this, and I haven't noticed any trouble using it--so mileage
varies.

Thanks,

The beaviour is specific to high potential of viral content. I never
encountered it with normal mail or "innocent" spam (my ISP spam filter works
fine). With Netscape mail, any message can be retreived (so I don't think my
ISP has a virus filter). With OE these particular mail header can be read
(so I can see object and sender but can't access to properties) When I want
to download all the message, outlook said "UID Fetch complete" (no
difference seen with syncro only headers or full).
In addition I never encountered that before installing MSAS (but there could
be WinUpdt changes).

Hmm - so perhaps these messages are larger than average in size?

About the only action I take with my imap mailbox is to mark items for
deletion--I'll try to spend more time pulling them in.

My previous impression was that this was a bug on machines which perhaps
also evidenced other Microsoft Antispyware related bugs--perhaps excessive
CPU load, or multiple icons in the notification area, or the like--but I've
heard about this issue only a handful of times.

These messages are litle more than 40 k (depending on headers size). I think
it's the structure of the message which is involved.

With more tests (the same diag occurs if I shutdown MSAS), I wonder being
wrong with this newsgroup. Should have posted on general newsgroup related
to OE. Must wake-up?

There are definitely bugs in OE. Asking in a public group for that app may
be the best course. There are a variety of circumstances which can involve
corruption of the storage structure--be careful!
