outlook express will not send email to hotmail account

I have currently updated my outlook express to version 6.
i have windows 2000 professional. now, i cannot send an
email from my outlook express to any address with a
hotmail account. i can receive them, i just can't send
one. it comes back as a failure notice. i have no
problem sending emails to any other email addresses, just
hotmail accounts. weird. any help or suggestions will be
appreciated.
