Outlook Express trouble importing messages

I have recently reformatted my hard drive. Before I reformatted I copied my files onto a CD. I did NOT select EXPORT in outlook express first. (Now I realize that I should have done this.) When I attempt to import my old messages the program gives me a message "no messages are contained in this folder". When I look on the CD the files are there. Is there anything I can do to retrieve them?

Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location of your
Outlook Express files. Write it down.

Put in the CD in and click the Folders button. Drag the files in the CD to
the corresponding OE files that you created to send these to.

I Know it's "Old Fashioned", but I back up OE on CD all the time.

Copy the DBX files to and empty Windows folder on the hard drive. Remove
the Read Only attribute and then try to import them.

No you shouldn't, the Export function in OE only exports to Outlook or
Exchange

Copy the files to a new folder on your HDD. Remove the Read-Only attributes.
(Make sure that the file called Folders.dbx is in your files). THEN in OE
try the import.

Why bother with the "creation of a duplicate set of folders"? Just copy the
files to the HDD, remove the Read-only attribute and import. Easy.
