Outlook Express Removes Attachments

I recently got SBC/Yahoo DSL service set up on my XP
machine; and even more recently have just started using
Outlook Express with the SBC/Yahoo e-mail service.
However, I notice that Outlook Express is removing many
attachments. From my work e-mail, I sent myself a .txt
file, which came through OK. But with .doc files, one of
two things have happened:
1) When I send myself a .doc file, Outlook shows the
attachment (a paper clip appears, and when I click on the
paper clip, I can see the file name; but the filename is
grayed out and doesn't respond at all when I click on it.)
2) When someone (at least my sister) sends me a .doc
file, Outlook Express reports that "OE removed access to
the following unsafe attachments in your e-mail: etc...."

Why is this, and what can I do to let these files get
through?

The change you made deferred OE back to some of its default settings.
Nothing serious.

OE>Tools>Options>Security Tab. Uncheck: "Do not allow
attachments........."

I've done what you suggested. Also, in reading the
material at the links you suggested, I see that the
second one has me wondering about something. When it
says to save the attachments so that you can scan them,
is it implying that the very act of saving them will
caused them to be scanned; or is it that they must then
be manually scanned after saving?
Also, since I have Norton Internet Security and Norton
AntiVirus, shouldn't that be enough without bothering
with that (those) step(s)? That is, aren't the messages
scanned before I can even open the message, let alone the
attachment?

I actually don't know the answer to that. I do know that if your A/V
is up to date, you shouldn't have any problem.
