Outlook Express question

Where in OE do you set your reply to appear before or after the quoted text?
I have not run across that option in O.E., which defaults to top-posting.
That's probably one reason why this poor practice (in newsgroup threads that
have multiple replies) has become common, unfortunately IMO.

I don't get it. If you use bottom posting then everyone that tries to read
the replies to post has to page down through the original post, that has
probably already been read, to see a reply. It gets worse with replies to
replies to a post.

Unfortunately, Outlook Express gives you no choice in the matter.
It always puts the cursor at the top of the message, because
Microsoft has decided that top-posting is the better way to post.

But there's nothing to stop you from manually moving the cursor
where *you* want it, as I've done in this message.

You might also want to consider downloading and using the free
OE-Quotefix, at http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/

The above is my solution to the problem. Highlight and cut the bulk of
previous posts. Even with largest lettering, I've kept this to one screen.

Use other than an MS newsreader. Or for O.E., apply the OEQuoteFix
patch
from http://HOME.IN.TUM.DE/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/
It's free, and corrects the longstanding quote bug that causes the
ragged/short lines seen here. MS has ignored this for years, perhaps
because they have no serious competition. Most folks just go with
what's bundled with Windows, and many seem unaware that their posts
do not have to
be as disorganized as they appear here. Knowledgable regulars in the
group
use the patch.

Another fault with the O.E. client is that some quoted material is
below the -- quote delimiter. In newsreaders that do it correctly,
that material is stripped when replying. Thus, the continuity of the
thread is lost. There should be nothing below the -- except for a
sig, which correctly should be stripped.

To see graphically why bottom-posting contributes to continuity and
intelligibility, visit
s- just as an
example - where bottom-posting is the generally accepted convention.

This discussion never ends, and few folks change their views as a
result of it.^

Hey, that works great. I downloaded and installed OEQuoteFix and LIKE it.
Thanks.
