Hi,

Please direct me to the proper newsgroup is this is not
the right one.

I recently installed Windows XP. I added an email
account to Outlook Express from an outsider server, and
when I click on Send/Receive I keep getting the password
screen. I click okay but the password screen keeps
coming up. Then I'll hit cancel and click on
Send/Receive again and it will not deliver email from
this particular source. This is the message I get:

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your
Password was rejected. Account: 'mail.xxx.org',
Server: 'mail.xxx.org', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR Username/Password Mismatch perhaps
(e-mail address removed) ?', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

I used this same mail server when I had Windows ME and it
worked fine, and I do know my password is correct as it's
the same password I've used for over a year. With
Windows ME, it never asked me for a password.

If anyone could help, I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Thanks,
Katy

Call your ISP, each ISP sets up different authentication
methods for pulling your POP3 email. Make sure you have
entered the correct user name password. (If you use dial-
up, most of time it is the same as your dial-up login)

Mike,

Thank you for your reply. The website that you gave me
brings me back to the MS support page and tells me that
the article is no longer available. I would be very
interested in reading it if it would help me correct this
problem.

Yes, when I added the account, I did add save password.
I've tried it both ways even without clicking on save
password and the PW screen still continues to come up
even if I add the correct PW.

Thanks again,
Katy

The above also applies to Internet Explorer and other applications that use the Protected Storage System Provider registry key to store passwords.
