Hey, don't think too much of your client first.
Coz you mention having problems connecting to the news server.
Do this.
Go to a command prompt. Assuming your news server is news.microsoft.com
Do this at command prompt: telnet news.microsoft.com 119
If you connection to the server is successful, you should see this message
"200 NNTP Service 6.0.3790.206 Version: 6.0.3790.206 Posting Allowed"
The above line means you have network access to the news server.
If you see anything other than something similar to this, your network port number 119 outgoing has been blocked. Contact your network admin.
If you see the above line, but your nntp client cannot connect, try another client. May be a client problem.
Cheers,
Dennis Chung
Are you posting from the problem machine (WinXP SP2)?
Does this behavior persist for all newsservers you use or just some/one (e.g., your ISP-supplied newsserver but not the MS newsserver)?
Post any error messages you're getting in their entirety, please.

I am having trouble with the News Reader of Outlook Express. Through some updates or something - it is failing to connect with the server.
I would like to re-install, as I have tweaked just about every thing I can think of. I've also ran disk clean up, spybot and Ad aware. I am finding nothing.
I thought maybe it was the server - as when I ping the server -it times out.
Any suggestions?
