Outlook Express Freezes System on Exit

Whenever I close Outlook Express on my computer, everything freezes for 2 to
3 seconds and then returns to normal.

When I quit Outlook Express, I can move the mouse cursor, but nothing
responds to clicks and if a song is playing in Windows Media Player, it
stops playing. After a couple of seconds, though, everything is just fine.
It's more of an annoyance than a serious problem, but I still don't like it.
Any ideas what is causing this?

Oh, yeah... I'm running Windows ME and Outlook Express 6. Also, I run
Norton Anti-Virus and Zone Alarm Firewall in the background. (Could they be
at fault?)
