Help
I just got a new computer and would like to transfer
files in my Outlook Express Inbox - that have attachments
that I need on my new computer. There are a lot of files
and I don't want to do it one by one - would prefer to
try one folder and transfer that but haven't had any luck
trying to figure it out. It seems that on my old system
the email inbox files are stored in a folder
called "Windows\Application Data\Identities\& a long
number", and when I go to transfer this on my new system
the file extension isn't recognized .dbx (and I've tried
to change the file extension) and there's no way to
import it into the Outlook Express format.
Thanks in advance if anyone knows an easy way to do this!

The secret is to create a destination folder on the new system
called "Mail". This must be directly off the root folder of the
drive, e.g.

C:\Mail

Then copy the entire Outlook Express message store from the
old system to this new "Mail" folder (chances are you can even
do this via a single floppy disk, if you Zip the files before
transferring. These files compress down to virtually nothing.)

Go into OE, choose File/Import/Messages, choose "Microsoft
Outlook Express 6", and on the following screen choose the
option "Import mail from an OE6 store directory".

I'm having the same problem. I think it's ridicoulous that there is not an easy way to save your e-mail files, especially personal folders. From now on, if there is something I want to save, I'll put it directly in a file I know I can access and save

Doing it one by one, and then having to open every attachment will take me forever. Copying to a document is ok, but you have to open each attachment in order to save the attachment. It's of course more jumbled together. I'll be working on that.

I'll be checking out the other 2 suggestions that replied. Sorry I couldn't have been of help, I really wish I could.

There are several ways to do what you want to do.. One of the simplest
is to make a new folder on your desktop (name it what you want) and have
OE open and just drag the HEADERS out and drop them in the new folder.
They will move as .eml files complete with attachments and all. The only
problem you might have is duplicate subject lines.. If you run into that,
simply rename the one you have already moved and move the other one
again...
Now, probably a better way is to go to the URL's below and use one of
the programs by Steve Cochran or Majik... They are GREAT programs
as you will find out.. You should never store large quantities of E Mail in
any
of the following folders. INBOX, SENT ITEMS, OUTBOX, DRAFTS or
DELETED ITEMS... If you MUST save them in your E Mail system,
RIGHT click on LOCAL FOLDERS in the tree and select NEW FOLDER
and put a name on it... You can make about as many of these as you wish.
Do not make SUBFOLDERS on the first 5 that I mentioned.
Try these URL's.

If you try the above and like it, make a donation... These men worked
hard building these programs for your use and they deserve it.
