Your Inbox may be corrupted.
- Close Outlook Express
search for Inbox.dbx
- Rename the file Inbox.dbx to Inboxold.dbx
- Open Outlook Express again.
- It will automatically create a new empty Inbox.
- The following program may be able to recover some of the messages from the Inboxold.dbx file.
DBXtract - http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/DBXtract.htm

You can find out about about issues affecting Outlook Express 5/6 at:

Usual issue with OE !

Temporarily you can delete them one by one depressing shift del.

First, repair the files: Locate the folder OE stores its files into: open
OE, "Tools", "options", "maintenance", click on the "storage directory"
button, write the complete path down on a paper then escape. In the
Explorer, go to this directory, look at the used space. This is for your
information only, and especially loook at the big files (more than 50 MB).
Note them as well as their sizes. Close OE (important).

Open Explorer at the root of the disk the files are stored in, on the
directory pane, right click on the letter, "properties", "tools", "verify
now", select your options ("advanced"). I'd suggest you ignore the "crossed
file"s first, then to "convert the lost clusters" into "files", that's all.
Then "OK" and "star"t. Read carefully the messages prior to answering. It
will probably propose to fix the inbox folder and some other ones.

It is important to keep "folder.dbx" not growing too much nor any other dbx
file. 150 MB is a maximum maximorum.

When this is done,
Open again OE, back to the maintenance flap you left a while ago, check only
"compress in the background", let unticked the other boxes.
Then "clean", keep "Outlook Express" and select the first button "Compress"
click on it. Wait for minutes (one hour may be possible if you've subscribed
to lotta groups.

When this is finished go back to the directory you noted and look again at
the files you pointed out. You'll be surprized.

Back to the OE window, archive the contents of the big files into several
new smaller files (50 MB max is OK).

Launch this procedure on a regular basis it will be quicker if done so. OE
won't freeze again (at least less often ;-8 ) and it will be quicker.

Hope this will help you.
