I installed Windows XP Pro on my PC last week. I've been
using Outlook Express for E-mail and as a news reader.

I got annoyed by OE6 always asking me if I wanted to Open or
Save file attachments such as JPG pictures so I unchecked the
"Always ask before opening files of this type" box.

Now, I've changed my mind and want the option to Open or Save
back again but I cannot find a setting in OE6 Options that
will turn on the "Always ask before opening files of this
type" again.

Please advise how I can do this. Thank you.

In OE, go to Tools>Options...>Security tab. Re-checkmark "Do not allow
attachments to be saved or opened.....virus" in the top section with the
globe to the left.

Malvern, it turns out that after I posted this note, someone
told me that I need to use Windows Explorer>Tools?Folder
Options>Advanced and re-check "Ask before opening files of
this type". That worked.

What you're talking about in your reply would only shut off
being able to open attachments altogether - that's what the
"Virus" option in OE6 is for - to prevent the nerds from
messing up their computers by opening a file attachment that
had a virus in it.

Duly noted and saved in my personal Help folder. Didn't know this feature
existed elsewhere.
