Outlook Express Address Book Files

D

Dave

I'm trying to move my Address Book files (.wab) from a
Win 98 machine to a new Win XP Pro machine (laptop). I
can't seem to find the root folder to put these files in
so the address book shows up on the new laptop. I've
searched all through Outlook Express for the folder they
will reside in with no luck. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Perhaps I should look in the User sub
folders?

Thanks in advance..

On the 98 machine do a find for *.wab. Copy those files to the XP machine
and in OE do a file, import, address book and point to that file. OE will
put the address book where it belongs. Normally the address book in XP is
kept in Documents and Settings/username/Application Data/Microsoft/Address
Book.

Hi Dave,

Export this key, then merge it into your XP registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4\Wab File Name

To copy over all of the mail folders, message rules, etc, export all of
these keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express

To manually back up the address book:

Click Start, and then click Search. Click All files and folders .
In the What do you want to search for box, click All files and folders. In
the All or part of the file name type, *.wab , and then click Search.

When the search is finished, double-click each file to open it. When you
have found the correct one (it will contain your Contact information), note
the exact location and name of the file.

In Outlook Express, click the File menu. Click Import, and then click
Address Book. Point the Look In field to the location that you noted in the
above step.

Click the .wab file, and then click Open. Click OK to import the Address
Book.
