Newly installed OE6 doesn't "remember" the last used directory for saving
attachments. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Kev

Download the attached .vbs file fix (good for all OSS) and save it to your
hard drive. (You may want to right click and use Save Target As)
Double-click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

After your first Save To, the location you chose will be remembered. This
fix can "wear out" depending on your usage of Save To so you may need to use
it again, unless the fix comes out first.

Also available at...

Set the "Save Attachment" Default in OE (Line 242)

*Note: for 9x systems, and possibly Win2K, you need the VB6 runtimes
installed to use the EXE version.

Thanks... unfortunately I tried it and it didn't work. It did change the
path but incorrectly (changed to "x:\yyyy\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"). The next save
defaulted to "My Documents" again. I have never had this problem before and
am at a loss to figure out why it happens.

Not clear what was incorrectly done.
It is supposed to save a variable in the registry with lots of trailing
backslashes for your OS.

Use the following search on Google Groups to get an explanation
and some alternative procedures:

slashes saving margaret author:byrd group:microsoft.*.ie6_outlookexpress

(Note that the word slashes is used more frequently in these discussions
than the correct word backslashes.)

BTW Jim originally discovered the workaround on W2K.
There is a different workaround for 9x users which uses dots instead.
Originally they were offered a different programs (oesaveas.vbs for
the backslashes and oesaveas98.vbs for the dots). Perhaps there is a
problem trying to provide the necessary generality in oesaveas_all.vbs?

Good luck

After running the script, My Documents will still be the target folder for
your first Save As. Now choose another folder and the location should be
remembered the *next* time you Save As.

PA BEAR,
I used that fix too and it did change it to my Desktop where I wanted it
but do we have to live with all the /**^#\\\\\\\\\\\\ behind it?

Burt, the MS newsservers have been having a severe case of agita since
earlier this week. (Most of us have had to Reset all newsgroups.) Kev's
post was on 18 Jan-04, I replied to him on the 19th and we've not heard from
him since.

PA Bear,
You are right, something is messed up and probably me... I didn't
really watch the dates that close, but I didn't see my own post for
a day or two on that one.. Hmmmmm. I haven't had to reset as YET...
Oh Well, thanx for keeping me posted.
Burt
