I am using a Dell Dimension 2350 with Windows XP. I am conected to the
internet via Comcast and using Outlook Express 6 (provided by Comcast) for
my mail service. I have set up the properties of outlook according to the
instructions of Comcast. Now to the problem, I can not send/receive mail. I
have called customer support and they have confirmed that my setting are
indeed correct but they
can go no further than that. The pop3 (mail.comcast.net. The smtp
(smtp.comcast.net) the settings outgoing (25) pop3 (110) and I get
nothing. It has worked for a long time prior to this. Now the really
strange part. I have put the settings at, outgoing (465) Pop3 (995) These
setting are used when you are traveling but have worked for a time even
though I am home Now I get nothing with any setting Any thoughts , help,
or ideas. Thanks OLDMAN

dont know if this will help you.

but at a CMD prompt you can try to Telnet to port 25 of
mail.comcast.net and see if you get a reply

when trying to telnet to Port25 of Mail.comcast.net i
recived the following error. Count not open connection
to the host on port 25: connection failed.

from this Error I would have to say the problem is with
Comcast not you. as there mail server is not answering.

Please see the following artical on Microsoft.com

XFOR: Telnet to Port 25 of IMC to Test IMC Communication

this artical ewxplanes how to use Telnet to test the IMC
for Internet mail. and this will work for any SMTP mail
server.

OLDMAN,

The correct outgoing mail server is:
smtp.comcast.net
Port:25

Incoming Mail server:
mail.comcast.net
Port:110 (can very if using proxy software such as Anti-virus, POP-up blocking programs, etc...).

If you are having problems downloading mail in OE, and you have not changed your settings, then you may have a corrupted mail message in your ISP's Mail Inbox folder. You need to go to the webmail interface for your ISP. and delete any SPAM (usually the culprit) message in the Inbox there. Then try again to download through OE.
