Hi guys,

I use outlook express 6 and have all updates and use Norton 2005 with
firewall.
It has got to the point all emails I receive, if it is not on my allowed
list (Norton)all messages go into my spam folder. Because the way thing are
set most messages
go to my spam folder, because too much is too much. (Spam) However since I
am setting up my Allow messages to come thru I need to check my spam folder
for messages which are ok. The problem, when I select my spam folder, the
first spam message opens and I do not want this to happen.
Is there a way to stop this from happening, so I may see the messages and
who sent them, if all are spam, I do not want to open any, but just delete.
It appears I missed something along the way. Any help grateful.

Hi,
While in a Mail folder (not a newsgroup) right-click the OE toolbar, choose
customize and add the Preview button. Remember to turn the Preview Pane off
before going to the Spam folder.

Or, even easier, I keep the Preview Pane off for mail. I do use the Preview
Pane for newsgroups.

Hope this helps,

In addition to Don's suggestions, understand that Norton AntiSpam (NAS) and
AntiVirus (NAV) can lead to corruption in OE (i.e., loss of messages and/or
functionality).

I suggest disabling both NAS (if possible) and NAV's Email Protection. The
latter provides no additional protection and even Symantec says it's not
necessary:

Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
