thanks for the help but I have already tried aol support without any
success.

When I 1st contacted Dell (computor mfg) I was told it was a software
problem and it would cost $100. for a walk thru fix as I didn't have the
right warranty coverage. I was hoping someone here would have an answer and
save me the money.

thanks, Jerry

Jerry, since you can send/receive on other accounts, the email program and
your computer are working fine. All that's left is the email settings for
the AOL servers (and I don't know why AOL is not helping with this when
it's their ball park).

In general: Some ISPs have different settings for outgoing than they do for
incoming. Those settings are provided by the ISP. AOL should have some help
documents online somewhere that show exactly what should be entered for the
sending portion of the settings.

Just checked their mail help now and I see directions specifically for
Outlook listed on this page (you may have to log on with an AOL account
before the page will display):

Most notably, they use port 587 for outgoing instead of the standard port
25.
