I have Outlook 2000 on a dsl connection with both hardware firewall and
Sygate firewall.

My outlook is downloading new mail, even when the software is closed. I have
gone through the settings but I don't see one that addresses this issue.

Any help?

do you have a pda or application that accesses outlook data? something is
causing outlook to load and run hidden. You can close it using the task
manager.

Diane,

I do not have any applications that access outlook and it does not show up
in the task manager as a running application.

It does show Processes.

that means something is causing it to load - look over the other processes
and try to figure out what is accessing the outlook data.

Well there was nothing in the list of Processes running that meant anything
to me in that respect.

I then went to msconfig and the startup list and found a lot of stuff
starting that I didnt feel that I needed. I unchecked all of those and
rebooted.

Outlook is not showing up in the Applications or Processes of task manager.

Diane, I am going to assume that we have solved this and I do thank you for
your assistance. If it happens again, and I can't cure it, i'll repost.
