Outlook does not retain password

I have a fresh installation of Outlook and am trying to setup 1 email
account. I keep putting the password into the textbox and check off the
"remember password" , but the program will not retain the password. When I
close and then open Outlook the password is missig and it prompts me for the
password to authenticate to the mail server. Any suggestions humbly welcomed.
