Outlook does not recognize any names in my contacts list

Hi, periodically, my Outlook will not be able to resolve a name typed into the To field. It then pops up the "check names" dialogue with no suggestions. When I click "Show More Names" it says "The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved..." etc. etc.

After I click ok, I can select one of two "Contacts" lists in a drop down in the top right hand corner. One contains all of my contacts and the other is empty.

I don't know where the empty one comes from and I don't know why Outlook sometimes points there by default about 30% of the time...

I have sub contact folders but none of them are empty...Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kristan

I'm sure you intended to post your Outlook version.

phantom Contacts folders occur often on our system!

Go into the setup area for the Address book - click the book icon. Then select Tools, Options and make sure the correct Contacts folder is the first one Outlook looks in for your Contacts. You can also remove the spare phantom ones here.
