I have Outlook 2002 (10.2627.2625) . When I use it at work, it automatically gets new messages and alerts me with a sound and taskbar icon, while I am working on something else. At home, I connect to the same exchange server using a DSL connection, but it doesn't alert me. I have to explicity click on Send/Receive or click on a different folder in my mailbox to force it to refresh and download new mail. Anybody knows why, and how to fix it

Help appreciated, thank

Exchange communicates via UDP packets (one-way them to you) to notify
your e-mail client (Outlook) that there is new e-mail. If something
blocking that UDP communication then your client won't know about the
updates. Could be a NAT router. Could be a software/hardware firewall.
Could be how your employer uses VPN or whatever you have configured on
your end. Talk to your company's IS/IT department on why UDP is getting
blocked over the VPN to their network.

OL2002: You Cannot Receive New E-mail Notifications in Environments That
Use the Network Address Translation

This KB article lists one cause of failure. Could be something else. I
believe the registry hack to force polling then has your client poll the
Exchange server rather than wait for UDP notifications from it.
