outlook database problem

my accunt and business contact records have "disappeared", they show up on
the navigagtion window, but they are "empty".

How can I find them and restore them? In the future, how can I back them up?:
 
You must provide at least some information.
Post your Outlook version and what you mean by "navigation window."
Post what these records are: categories, distribution lists, separate
folders, something else?
Look in your Deleted Items folder.
