my contacts became corrupted with about 45k of blank contacts.
i got frustrated with it and deleted the whole thing now i can't get
anything to work in the contacts, including being able to access my contacts
from winword

i'm running windows xp and i still have a mess on my hands. although i have
contacts in under conacts when i try to access the address book they are not
there also if i try to access contacts from winword i can't get to my contacts

Is the Contacts folder still flagged as an address book here: Right click on
the Contacts folder, choose Properties and go to the Outlook Address Book
tab

yes.

Maybe you should remove & readd the Outlook Address Book service here: Tools
menu > Accounts > View/Change existing directories/address books

See if this helps: close Outlook and use the Mail applet in Control Panel to
remove the Outlook Address Book service from your mail profile. Then add it
back in.
