In reading Outlook phone numbers from a contacts folder I saw that the
numbers are returned in a format that confuses and slows down
searches required by CTI system. It required a lot of templates to be
matched and was essentially freezing Outlook.

Trying to them to the CTI systems native database format too is
fraught.

I can break them up properly on both national and international area
codes using best guesses the proper dialling code databases.

Is there a way to write them back into the Outlooks contacts folder
properly formatted?

As you already mentioned, probably you have to guess a lot, depending on
what's avalable. If there's only a 12345 then it might be difficult.

This tool does what you're looking for:

Maybe you can contact the author and ask for an English version.
