Outlook Contacts Not Working

Outlook 2000
Windows XP
Exchange Server 2000

When entering the first name of someone known to be in the Outlook
Address Book, the name is not corrected/updated by Automatic Name
Checking.

I've tried deleting the .nick file, repairing Outlook, reinstalling
Outlook, adding a profile, deleting all profiles, deleting all address
books, yet nothing seems to get the functionality back.

Please help, I've posted here before and gotten no responses.

Thanks!

what behavior are you seeing instead? Is this IMO or CW mode? If the latter,
what's the address book resolution order?

We're in Corporate Workgroup mode, using an Exchange 2000 server.

We've changed the address book resolution order several times, including
putting the user's Outlook Address Book first, but it doesn't seem to
work. We get the names from the global contact list just fine (other
employees) but the Firm Contacts (located in public folders) and the
personal contacts (contacts under outlook today) simply won't resolve.

If you click the Check Names button on the taskbar it says no matching
names were found. However if you click the Show More Names button, the
sought-after name is usually right on top of the list.

Thanks!

What address lists are present in Tools | Services | Addressing as those
used for name resolution? What is the address resolution order? What exactly
is the user entering in the To field?

I went to Tools>Address Book, then Tools>Options.

First I found that Show this address list first was set to "contacts",

Keep personal addys is set to "Contacts"

When sending mail, the order is Contacts, Global Address List, then Firm
Contacts (the one in public folders).

To test, I typed in the first name of a unique name to all three address
lists, "bernadette" (without the quotes) in the To field of a new
message.

I then tabbed to the subject field, typed "test" then tabbed to the
body. The name did not autocomplete.

I clicked the Check Names button, and the popup message said
"bernadette" was not recognized. Change To showed no suggestions. I
clicked the Show more names... button and the address window came up,
for the Contacts list (as it should since that's the first one) and
Bernadette was highlighted. The names were sorted First Last.

I could then click ok, and the name was completed.

I have also tried using a unique last name, with the same results.

Check Tools | Options | Email Options | Advanced Email Options to see
whether the options for checking names and suggesting names (autocomplete)
are even turned on.

Well, that makes it a stumper, doesn't it? At this point, creating a new
profile seems like a good troubleshooting technique to try.

Well you're to the point I have been which led me here. Hehehe I've
tried creating a new profile, deleting the old one, then I tried adding
a profile and using it instead, neither solved the problem.

I've also reinstalled Outlook.

Unless it's impossible to be a server-side issue, I think I have to
delete the mailbox/account and recreate it.

If I do that, I'll export his current contacts into something benign
like a comma-delimited file or excel spreadsheet to get his contacts
back.

A server side issue is definitely a possibility, especially if you get the
same problem from different profiles and different machines.
