Outlook contact name order

Olaf

When I enter a new contact I type in the persons name in
First Name Last Name format. eg "Peter Smith". When I
hit return the File As box shows "Peter, Smith" and when
I click the Full Name button the entry has been filed
First Name Last and Last Name First.

I have checked the default File As order and it should be
ok?

Where am I going wrong. I am using an exchange server
with a large contact database and aslo a local contacts
database.

Thanks

Olaf

Please be more explicit.
Outlook version.
In what fields you are entering names.
How you set your default File As and Full Name fields.
You'll find the answer when you look at that I suspect.

Ok, here goes...

Outlook version is 2003 Pro. 11.5608.5703

I am entering names in the "Full Name" field in the first
name last name order eg Peter Smith

When i hit enter the name appears in the "File As" field
as Peter, Smith and when i click "Full Name" i see that
the first name is listed as Smith and the last name is
Peter.

The defaul File As order is Last, First and the default
Fule Name order is First Last 1 Last 2.

The answer I am looking for still escapes me!

I have the same software loaded on a laptop without any
problem.. Could it be a conflict with the Exchange server?

That Full Name default is very odd and appears to be the problem. Why are
there 2 last names fields? What happens if you parse the names yourself?

Thanks for you time here. I am not sure what you mean by
Parse but wien i click the Full Name button and enter teh
names in to the right fielsd for First name Last name the
File As field shows the names in the correct format.
However if i simply tyoe the name into the Full Name box
the first and last names are transposed.

Does this explanation make sense? The result is that all
the names that i add are back to front! Very irritating.

As i said before the same package on my portable is not a
problem.

That's what I mean by parse, and the fact that it works tell me where the
problem is. Right where I said. You have selected the incorrect format for
Full Name.
Use First (Middle) Last, not First Last1 Last 2

I have now selected First (Middle) Last and still face
the same situation.

I think I actually changed it from this to First Last
Last to try and resolve the situation when I first
noticed it.
