Outlook Contact list locking up

I am having a problem with MS Outlook (Office 2000) Contacts list. When I
open a new email and click on TO: to open the Contacts list, I can only
scroll down to the M's. It then locks up Outlook. I have tried removing what
I assumed to be a bad entry, but when I try to scroll past what is about the
same location in the Contact list, it locks up still.

I have tried run the MS Office set-up and run Repair, but this didn't solve
anything. Also I can open the Contact view to edit, print, add or delete
without any problems. I have also checked the Event log, no errors or
warnings that relate to Outlook.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Stephanie, I have a similar problem... I also use Office 2000 on a
notebook computer logged onto a network... I have public contacts and after a
while all of them disappear except A and part of B, I can't scroll past here,
but it does not lock up my system... I hope someone can help...

This is a very common problem which Microsoft claims they cannot reproduce
and therefore cannot solve. Anecdotal reports claim the following may help:
1. Look for and correct a corrupt address in the Contacts displayed in the
Outlook Address Book (especially if the crash at the same place when
scrolling).
2. Remove then re-add the Outlook Address Book Service or, better yet,
create a new Outlook profile.
3. Update your video drivers.

Most people seem to find no solution.
