Outlook consuming all CPU resource

Can anyone help me solve this problem?

At time, my PC slows to a crawl - applications take minutes to launch or
change function.

The PC is a Dell Optiplex GX240 with a 1.8GHz Pentium 4 and 256MB RAM,
and usually runs all software with adequate speed. The OS is Win2KPro
with SP4.

Inspection of Task Manager shows that Outlook is taking up to 99% of the
CPU resource - but it doesn't appear to be doing anything useful. Short
of closing Outlook, I can find no way of persuading it to be a well-
behaved program.

The problems seem to have started after installing the Microsoft patch
MS 03-26 and Win2K SP4 - could this be just a coincidence, or can
anybody out there provide an explanation?

If you are running Outlook 2000, is it configured in Internet Mail Only
mode? If yes, did you recently apply SP3 for Office/Outlook 2000? If yes,
did you apply the December 18th 2002 update for Outlook 2000?

I would definitely give it a shot if you are using it for calendaring
reminders.

I've searched the Microsoft download center for OL2000, but can't find
an update of 18th December 2002.

At http://office.microsoft.com/Downloads/default.aspx with Product:
Office and Version: 2000, there are updates dated 14-Aug-2002 and
28-Feb-2003 but nothing in between.

Any ideas?
