Outlook Connector Install Failure!

I have Office 2007 with Outlook... and have tried to install the connector.
It fails each time saying it can't find Outlook. Ugggh, it is there. I've
installed, reinstalled... still failure.

First off, what does connector do that Outlook does not do already? I can
read my hotmail email through Outlook now.

And secondly... gawd Microsoft sells bloated software, don't they? Outlook
often crashes... so I mostly rely on Outlook Express. Every time I get some
Microsoft software, I end up kicking myself... open source! Please. It
gets old having to tweak this stuff all the time to get it to run.

the connector brings in contacts as well as email. Try Help, Office
diagnostics in Outlook.

I ran diagnostics... no problems found. I've reinstalled Outlook. You name
it, I've done it. Still, connector fails to install and does not see Office
2007 is on my machine. Uggh.

The incorrect response is: "format your hard drive and reinstall
everything." At that point, I would just get a MAC. haha. And I've been
one of the hardcore holdouts against that. I teach computers at a community
college... most of the other profs in my division have already switched to
Mac. It's always a hassle factor issue for me.

My current machine has 2 gig of ram, very very fast, updated drives, you
name it. And Vista. Of course to make it usable, I had to turn off all the
#$%$ crap but other than that, it is Vista.

Not that this is an expression area, but everytime I want to use that, it
goes through the install process. It would be comical if I hadn't spent
money on it.

Thanks,

did you have an older version of office installed on this system and
upgrade?

on expression - letting the install finish usually fixes it. This happens
because the installer is screwy and the local cache of install files is
corrupt. It can happen with any program and letting the installer finish
fixes it, for a time. Installing something later will trigger it again, with
a different program. It's been a problem since the win9x days - you can't
blame vista for it. :)

ha, no just blame Microsoft for all this crap. I've done all I can. I will
just chalk it up and figure connector isn't worth the hassle of formatting
and starting all over again.

Do you realize the amount of hassle we put up with and then turn around and
buy their buggy stuff all over again? Heck, I'm even guilty of it.

The day Apple offers to give me money on trading in my current computers is
the day I switch. Boom. Wonder why they haven't thought of that.
