I had to re-install my operating system on my office computer running Windows
XP Media Center Edition.

I installed notes 6.5.1 client and configured it.
I installed Office 2003 and all updates (including sp2).
I installed the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for IBM Lotus Domino.

When I launch Lotus Notes, I can access my mail without a any issues.
When I launch Microsoft Outlook 2003, I get the following message then
outlook closes.

"Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The server is not available.
Contact your administrator if this condition persists."

In the outlook log file

<<d70 26 22:53>> In Constructor of CABProvider
<<d70 26 22:53>> Error in CABProvider::QueryInterface failed, E_NOINTERFACE
(0x80004002)
--- Appears several times

<<d70 26 22:53>> CMSProvider::Logon after PST logon
<<d70 26 22:53>> Error in CMSProvider::Logon, after first Logon failed,
MAPI_E_UNCONFIGURED (0x8004011c)
Appears several times.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Abel, I posted the info below in another post while looking for any answers
to similar problems you describe...here is what I found:

We are having problems using the "Outlook 2003/2002 Add-in: Notes Connector"
(download file olconn2.exe on Microsoft's download site.) We have been using
this successfully...with a few minor "annoyances," however, recently things
went haywire. I spent time yesterday and found this - it seems to be
associated with Office 2003 SP2...if the connector was already loaded and the
upgrade was done, things worked but started getting duplication problems,
etc...if SP2 was loaded prior to the connector load and setup, we could not
even get it fuctioning at all...the .nst file would create but could not be
read properly after that (file not available error.)

I took a workstation we were having the problem with, uninstalled office,
reloaded with Office SP1 and any updates prior to SP2, everything works fine.

There seems to be a problem with the current available connector
(olconn2.exe dated 4/12/2004 and Office 2003 SP2. There doesn't seem to be a
newer connector available and I do not know yet if there are any plans to fix
this issue either with a fix to Office SP2 or a new connector.

If anybody knows anything, please respond.

Thanks

Abel,

Just another quick update that could help...after a little more research, I
found a workstation around here that had Office 2003 SP2 loaded AND the
connector worked. BUT, that workstation did not have another update loaded
called
"Security Update for Outlook 2003 (KB892843)"
This update requires Office 2003 SP2 before it can be installed.

So, I am conjecturing SP2 may be okay (though I will need to do some testing
to make sure it is not causing some other issues, like duplicating meetings
when accepted by an invitation...we noticed this problem recently on a few
workstations.) But this "Security Update for Outlook 2003" might be blocking
the Connector from working.

Wayne,

Thank you for the information. I re-installed Windows and re-installed
Office, but waited until after Notes and the connector were installed before
installing the SP 2 and all updates.

The computer seems to still be running correctly. So as long as you install
the connector before installing SP2 things seem to work ok.

I am now installating another computer with the same setup, but Windows XP
Media Center 2005. If anything changes I will post again.

Wayne & Abel,

Nice Catch!! Been having the same problems with olconn2 and Domino
since mid Jan 06. olconn2 was working fine for over a year, even after
the SP2 upgrade. Tried every combination of uninstall-reinstall that
was possible. Since I did not have the "show updates" checked in the
add-remove programs control panel, I did not see the KB892843 update.

I uninstalled the olconn2, and the two updates under KB892843,
re-booted, reinstalled olconn2 and life is good again (with office 03
SP2). The problem appears to be solely from "Security Update for
Outlook 2003 (KB892843)"

once again, nice catch! Thanks

Hey Paul,

I have followed all of the threads relating the Domino Connector Add-In as
well as researched the Internet because I am unable to get the Domino
Connector to establish a connection with the server. I tried every
combination of uninstalling-reinstalling that was possible without any luck.
I also looked for the KB892843 update that you mentioned. I found that I
don't have it installed on the machine. I running Windows XP Pro with
Office 2003 Pro (SP2). I was wondering if there is any other possible
solutions this problem.

Thanks in advance for your help,

J. B.

JB,
Make sure when you look in Control Panels--> Add/Remove Programs, that
the "Change or Remove Programs is selected and at the top of the
window, the "Show Updates" is Checked. The KB892843 was a Hotfix that
was pushed sometime in January via the Windows Automatic update. If
the Checkbox is not checked, it won't show up on the list. There are
two entities that comprise the Hotfix that have (KB892843 ) as part of
the name. Once they're removed, re-boot and install the OLCONN2 again,
and follow the install.
If you've never had Outlook working with your Dominos server via the
Outlook Connector, you must have the Lotus Notes Client set up and
running with a valid .id file. The Outlook Connector set-up uses the
local Notes Client info to get the server name and ID file

Paul

Paul,

Thanks for your reply. The problem is that I do not have the "Show Updates"
checkbox in the Change or Remove Programs selection. The laptop is a
corporate machine in which the corporation pushes out the updates. I am the
admin of the local machine though. I even went to Microsoft's website under
the Office portion and had it search the machine for all of the installed
Office 2003 updates and the KB892843 hotfix was not installed.

Lotus Notes is what the corporation uses as their email client. It is
installed and runs on the machine. I don't have a problem finding the
server or the ID file. I just am unable to establish a connection to the
server. To be honest I don't even get the chance to enter the Domino Server
or the ID file. It is pre-populated when setting up the profile.

If you have any other ideas on what my next step would be let me know.

Thanks again for you time,

J. B.

Thank you!!!! I wasted all of yesterday today on this, and have only just found this thread. I had updated my Administrative Installation Point with this update, and olconn2 stopped working.

I've now rebuilt my admin point, with SP2, then KB905648, then KB907417, and everything is working fine now.

My bet is that it is installed, but you need to find a way to see it.
The only evidence on my XP pro SP2 to see the Hotfixes is in the
Add/Remove programs with the "check box" enabled. See below.

Be that as it may, If you really believe it is not installed, after you
install the OLCONN2.exe file how are you setting up the server?
There is an installation instruction that is in the exe file that
installs in the Outlook Connector directory (should install in
C:\Program Files\ Outlook Connector\InstallationGuide.htm that has the
instructions for setting up the connector before you run Outlook. Its
important that you follow those instructions. using the MAIL icon in
the Control Panel

I would still pursue the Hotfix as a potential. The Show Updates
checkbox is a Win XP SP2 feature. The fact that you don't see the
"show updates" checkbox in the Add Remove programs may mean that your
Corporate IT disabled it by group policy. You can turn it back on if
your willing to edit the registry. There are instructions for diabling
the checkbox under support.microsoft.com article 884786 titled "How to
manage the Currently installed programs list in Windows XP Service Pack
2 and in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005". You would use a 0 for
DontGroupPatches to re-enable it.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem and when I removed the Update, the issue was
corrected. Does anyone know whether you can reapply the update?

It seems the hotfix mentioned has now been included in KB913807. I
uninstalled the 2 files for the fix and connector, did a restart, and
reinstalled connector. The problem is still occurring.

On another computer with the same problem, I uninstalled the hotfix KB892843
(both parts) along with connector, did a restart, and reinstalled connector,
The problem is still occurring on that system too.

Anyone know of anything else that can help with this?

I couldn't find any of the referenced KB's on the system I having issues
with. I un-installed Office 2003 Pro and the connector and re-installed. Same
problem. I am now ghosting the pc back to before it ever had Office
installed. I'll post when I find out if that works.

Has anyone tried to contact Microsoft with this issue? Outlook is soooo much
easier to navigate that Notes that I'm going to hate telling my users they
can't use it anymore.

I actually had a support ticket open with MS for about 5 days and they
couldn't figure out the problem. I closed the ticket when I read this thread
and corrected the problem. I also informed MS of the fixes that cause this
problem and was told that the fix originally mentioned is now included in a
number of fixes and there is a problem with removing all components of the
fix from a system. I guess they will have a closer look and release another
fix sometime.

OK gang... Here's what I found out...

1. Un-installing Office 2003 and re-installing doesn't help... and...
2. Office 2003 SP2 cannot be un-installed.

I started with fresh load of Windows XP Pro and nothing else. All Microsoft
updates were current. I then disabled Auto-Updates. I loaded Lotus Notes
7.0.1 and then Office 2003 Pro. I then installed "olconn2" (the connector
piece) and low and behold it worked!!!

I then re-enabled Auto-Updates and ran Microsoft Update and installed the
updates that were displayed:

1. Update for Microsoft Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB913161)
2. Office 2003 Service Pack 2
3. Update for Office 2003 (KB907417)

It still worked. I returned to Microsoft Update and ran what it displayed:

1. Update for Outlook 2003 (KB913807)
2. Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB905756)

No more updates came up after that and it still worked! Hope this helps
anybody else dealing with this issue.

Folks,

I too am having this issue. I just took a brand new HP dc5100 out of
the box and installed Lotus 7.0.0 client on it then installed Office 2003
Professional without installing any Office updates or Office SPs. I am
receiving this error also. I have since then attempted to install Office SP2
but am still unable to connect. I have not installed any of the updates
listed here. I really need to get this resolved if anyone else has any
ideas. Doeas anyone have an ETA from Microsoft on a fix?

Carl,

a few threads up Adam had posted that he had a ticket open with MS but
finally closed it due to lack of response. I have found that if the PC is on
AD that you have to move quickly to get Lotus and Outlook configured as
un-attended auto-updates will load the offending patch whether you want it
there or not. I have had success with keeping the PC off the network until I
have all the pieces in place... Notes, olconn2.exe, the users Notes ID, etc.
I then plug it in and "Run like the wind" to configure Notes and Outlook
before the update gets loaded.

Good Luck,
Keith

After reading the saga, and removing the patches, I still can't get my connector to work. We recently went from Notes to Outlook at work and would like to have access to my Notes folders from Outlook.

I am on XP SP2, Notes Client 6.5.3, Outlook 2003 SP2. I don't have the patches in question (I did, but removed them and rebooted) and reinstalled the connector. I am still unable to open the Outlook Connector folder.

I even ran the scanost and scanpst utilities.

Any ideas???
