Outlook calendar standalone

The only thing I use Outlook for is the calendar. I typically don't like
to keep it (outlook) open because it is such a resource hog. As a
result, I have to manually go in and check the calendar every now and
again as I don't get reminders w/o outlook being open.
So I'm curious, is there a standalone client that can access the Outlook
calendar data and send reminders for events? Something that isn't so
heavy on the resources?

thnx,
Christoph

There is the Works calendar (if you have Works) and a number of
freeware/shareware calendars available, but none that I know of that access
the pst without opening outlook at least part way.

FWIW, if you keep outlook minimized to the taskbar or with ol2002/2003, to
the tray, it uses very little resources. But you would probably be better
served by a different program that only did calendars.

I've OfficeXP (presumably Outlook is OutlookXP?). I don't see where you can
configure it to minimize to the system try. Where is that setting?

thnx,

This (and you) have helped out alot. And you are right, the
footprint Outlook leaves is very tiny, indeed. Task manager
is reporting it taking up about 5k.
One final thing: how can I tell it to stop checking for email?
I use OE as my mail client so I don't need Outlook to perform
that role. I've tried to go in and set various options trying to
make it so that Outlook doesn't poll my mail server but none
have worked. I'm afraid if I removed the mail account, it will
also affect other things like tasks, calendar, etc. Is that the
case? If so, is there a way I can tell Outlook not to poll for
email?

thnx again!
Christoph

Removing the account converts it to no mail mode - it won't affect your
calendar etc, except you can;'t send meeting requests.

i need help in having a way of getting outlook calendar reminders whil
not having outlook open - sort of like Microsoft Works Calendar. Pleas
help if you can?!?!?!
