OutLook and Outbox

What is happening is when mail is sent, it sits in the outbox untill the
user clicks on the folder and then it goes, this is also the same for
inbound messages a user will have to click on the inbox to see any new mail.
anyone have any ideas what could be causing this, i notice this once in a
while just after all our workstations had sp2 for xp installed, now that we
are in the middle of a migration it has gotten alot worse.

Alittle back ground
We are running an Exchange 5.5 server and are migrating over to Exchange
2003
The first server is a windows 2000 with 5.5 sp4
and the second is windows server 2003 sp1
The clients are all windows xp sp2 with outlook 2002
