Funny, that's a project that's going to start at my work within a couple of
weeks now as well.

Is this for a corporate environment as well? Take a look at
http://www.gfi.com/. Also take a good look at the possibilities of the
software you are using for the phone centre. We just had an upgrade on that
and the new software will let us create fax server out if it as well (more
eassily than the old one).

Also take a look here;

Roady,
Is fax service available in outlook, or I need to purchase
a third party software for this?

How faxing is working in the outlook environmet. What
benefit will get from outlook if faxing is enabled?

suppose I want to send fax to a client, I know his email
address and fax number. I choose To fax number, will it go
his email address or fax.

(may be this question is a funny one)

Well I would like to know more from you, the sites which
you recommended they don't really giving the complete
picture.

Thanks in advance

Hi Anver,

There is a faxservice in windows. For more info on this;
Windows XP: http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/winxpfax.htm
Windows 2000: http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/win2000fax.htm

I'm not much of a fax-guru (unlike Russ Valentine) so I hope I can answer
your questions correctly.

When you mail to a fax it will go to the fax in the first place. If you fax
it to a fax-server it could be that the fax-server reroutes the fax to the
mailbox of the one you sent the fax to. To me the whole thing of sending a
fax instead of an e-mail goes a bit lost then :-)

For our environment the issue is the following;
A mailing goes out to lots of people who'll need to fill in a form and sign
it. As they (the people from the mailing) have their fax-numbers the mail
goes to recipients fax-number so they'll get a hardcopy straight away. When
it's filled in they will need to sent it back to a faxnumber. The faxserver
will receive this and by a recognision system (could be all sorts like a
number or a barcode) it will know to what mailbox it needs to reroutes it
too (by a built-in SMTP server). After a couple of weeks the mailing people
will look into the mailbox to see the responses and process them. The real
gain in this is that all the faxes are stored in a central place (mailbox)
automtically instead of (some inturn) walking up and down to the fax al day
to collect all the responses before someone else trashes them.

Have you checked with your phone server software to see if there is a
faxserver in it? The faxservice in Windows is a client only one I believe so
it would make it very hard to configure your clients in a way that not all
people will need to have faxmodems in their computer.

I hope this helps you in your situation. There is also a special outlook.fax
newsgroup which could be more of an assistance to you if you still have
questions on this issue.

Regards,

Roady's answers are spot on. I'm not quite sure what else you need to know,
and your questions are a bit hard to answer without knowing your Outlook
version or your operating system. Different versions of Outlook support
different fax software, as the links he provided will tell you. Consider Fax
just another message transport that you can add to to the others that you
have in Outlook. The advantage to having a fax transport in Outlook is that
you can send the same message to both email and fax recipients, use your
Outlook address book for sending to fax recipients, or take advantage of
more advanced fax functions as fax merges. As Roady said, post other any
other questions you may have in the outlook.fax group.

Thanks for jumping in :-)
