Outlook addresses

I recently exported outlook contacts and folders as .csv files and imported onto my laptop, the folders and subfolders all imported complete with saved messages. the contacts allimported to the address book, however, every time I try to select a contact into the "to" address bar all that comes up is . and no display name or email address. this also happens when I try to compile a distibution list, any solutions please?
