Outlook 2007 will not allow me to set Contacts as an address book. In the
Contacts properties Outlook Address Book tab the check box for "Show this
folder as an e-mail Address Book" is grayed out and can not be selected.
In the Account Settings dialog under Address Books > Change there are none
listed.
I used windows transfer to bring my outlook 2003 info. Found the problem,
Uninstalled Office, Reinstalled and found the same problem in a new empty
Outlook.pst file.
Many Thanks

You need to install the Outlook Address Book service:

"Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" check box is dimmed in Outlook
Contact folder properties

I currently have 5 e-mail accounts, all of them send and receive properly.
Using the suggested info brings up a dialog box asking for a password. The
password will not work even though it is correct. I tried the "repair option"

Password prompt for what? For Outlook 2003, with Outlook closed, go to
'Control Panel|Mail|Email Accounts|Add a new directory or address
book|Next|Additional Address Books|Next', select "Outlook Address Book", and
click "Next". For Outlook 2007, again with Outlook closed, go to 'Control
Panel|Mail|E-mail Accounts', cilck the "Address Books" tab, click "New"
select "Additional Address Books", click "Next", select "Outlook Address
Book", and click "Next".

This is Outlook 2007. The end result of your instructions is a dialog box
that reads "This account or directory type already exists and cannot be
specified twice."
Trying to remove the service does not work because the "Remove" Icon is
Grayed out.
The password problem occurred during the “Add the Outlook Address Book
service to your profile†process as described in

Thanks for you time

OK, sounds like it may be time for a whole new profile; profiles are kept in
the registry, they can become corrupt, and they can exhibit some really
bizarre behavior when that happens.
