Outlook 2k

Receive mail to inbox - open mail - read mail - close mail - the mail then deletes automatically off the pc with no copy in the deleted folder.
I've checked all the outlook settings.

Any help would be appreciated.

I hate to suggest it, but I know it's happened before. Check your View
settings. May be set to view unread messages. Just a simple thing that
seems to occur now and again.
 
Check your view settings. It's very likely set to only display unread items.
