All--

This is driving me nuts. I was having an issue with my outlook 2k where it
would crash quite frequently, usually by hanging. It would take a long time
to load, then when it came up, it would hang, I'd usually have to restart the
computer a few times to get it to work, then it stopped working altogether.

Here is the setup:
I logon to one domain, the exchange server is located in a separate domain.
I am able to ping to the exchange server. When I setup my services, I am able
to check name properly and it authenticates with my username and password to
the exchange server without error. The only strange thing is I have to use a
FQDN to reach the exchange server.
I have my mail set to go directly to a personal folder. The personal folder
is accessible and I have full permissions to it.

I called our IT department and they had me set "Logon Network Security" to
None on the advanced tab since I was not logging on to the exchange domain
directly. Dial-up Networking is set to "Do not dial... blah blah" and
"Remote Mail" is set to "Process Marked" and "Disconnect after connection is
finished".
They also had me add the DNS Suffixes to my DNS listings for my network
adapter. I'm guessing their assumption was I wasn't finding it because I was
entering the FQDN all the time.

I rebooted, just to make certain I was starting with a clean slate. When I
opened outlook 2k it logged in very quickly, pulled up my personal folders
without a problem and everything seemed hunky dory. When I clicked on
"Send/Receive" outlook brought up "Microsoft Exchange Remote Connection". I
have never seen it do this before and the other users in my area do not have
this as part of their mail retrieval process. The status bar completes, but
none of my mail is downloaded from the exchange server. I can logon through
webaccess and see all my mail, but it doesn't show up on my local system.
When I try to click on the exchange mailbox in the Folder list, it says that
"the information store could not be opened"

The IT department has started avoiding my phone calls because I refuse to
"check my network cable" and other things that this isn't.

I tried to run all the updates and I recevied "updates failed"... won't
tell me why, or for what reason. I'm running SP-2 on Outlook 2k and SP-4 on
Win2k.

I know this is a long read, and I appreciate ANY help that I can get.
Thanks in advance,
--Andy
